A durable and lightweight portable projector intended for gaming or casual entertainment.

    Pros:

    Price

    Durability

Large lens range (Display throw can be very close and very far away)

    Cons:

    Low Resolution

    Moderate Fan Noise

Lack of VGA input (Though this can be easily remedied)

I believe this product is sorely underrated. The Discovery Projector IS a projector, and when I can say that I bought a projector for around eighty dollars, that is an achievement. This product is not meant to be used in a home theater– it is for someone who needs access to a TV but may not have it. I bought this product because buying a TV would not be as portable or versatile, and a whole lot more expensive.

For those looking to connect to a laptop, look for a VGA to RCA cable. If you look in the right place, it can’t be more than $5-10.

Thought this would be perfect for the kids in our basement rec room. Weren’t looking for high quality and we can make the room completely dark. The projector was very simple to connect to our DVD player but the picture clarity was awful. Even in the pitch black the picture was faint, and if the background was light you couldn’t see the picture at all. Really had high hopes.

  3. I bought a Discovery Entertainment projector for Christmas. I knew it was a low resolution projector, but I didn’t expect to see the washed out look it provided. First, I cleaned the lens, but it did not help. Then I discovered that the projector’s external lens itself seems to be the source of the problem. What I did was take an opaque plastic cap that fits the outside diameter of the lens, put a 7/8″ hole in the center of the plastic cap. Then slipped the lens cap on the projector’s external lens. It greatly reduced any smearing and also increased the contrast ratio of the picture. The picture is slightly less bright, but the picture quality is much improved. I can’t imagine using my projector without this external lens cap. Since the Discovery projector bulb is low wattage, 50W, the projector lens doesn’t seem to get hot like higher power projector lens do. I have played two movies in a row on my Discovery projector and the plastic cap is not even warm with an indoor ambient temperature of 70 degrees F. For my part, I am very pleased with the picture improvement provided by this easy slip-on lens cap, considering it is a 240 line resolution projector. (Note: This external lens cap with 7/8″ center hole is specific to this Discovery Entertainment low power projector. Do not use an operating lens cap on other projectors.)

  4. i got this for the purpose of showing movies or playing games outside on nice summer nights. the resolution is low, focus is iffy, and screen image gets nowhere near 10′ as the box states without fading too much. speaker is terrible, but you can direct the sound cables to a stereo or something that produces better quality.

high quality projectors cost $100 to RENT. low-end HQ projectors are roughly 10x the price to buy. this is an insanely cheap projector and does everything it should be expected to do at that price. the a/v inputs are versatile, and most types of computers/games/dvd players/vcrs etc. can use them (or have adapters available). used properly, it functions adequately. it’s not near perfect, but it’s a totally fair budget option, and those who feel that it isn’t have way too strong a sense of entitlement.

  5. Bought this for a christmas gift for an avid gamer and turns out that the picture is unbelievably grainy. waste of time and money. the picture was so bad that even the menu was not clearly visible even after several attempts to focus it. just goes to show…you pay for what you get!
