If I am a military spouse and I become a surrogate, will Tricare cover the pregnancy/delivery expenses?

I know the IVF procedures and any other infertility treatment will not be covered, I just want to know if the pregnancy will be covered. Any help is greatly appreciated!

That’s a tricky question that you should call tricare and ask. When my wife did it, the couple paid for everything. I think, if i remember correctly, that tricare will cover the pregnancy since it is a medical condition to a tricare member. Call tricare though.

“Surrogate arrangements – TRICARE may contribute to the remaining balance of otherwise covered benefits related to the surrogate mother’s medical expenses after the contractually agreed upon amount has been exhausted.”

Please keep in mind that Tricare is NOT intended to be the main insurance provider for surrogate parents, only as a secondary insurance provider

Absolutely NOT. Any and all medical expenses would be paid for my the intended parents. It would be clearly spelled out in any and all legal contracts prior to beginning a surrogate cycle. This is a common occurance with ALL surrogates. The intended parents would pay for all medical expenses, your maternity clothing, your legal counsel, a housekeeper for you (if required…such as, if you were put on bed rest), and compensation for you. A surrogate and her insurance company do not pay a dime.

Last time I checked, Tricare did cover the pregnancy expenses. However, insurance companies are more and more often writing in a disclaimer specifically excluding pregancy by surrogacy. Once you are matched with a couple, have their attorney look at your coverage book.
