The calendar doesn’t end, just the 13th cycle. The 14th cycle starts as soon as the 13th one ends. Why don’t people get that?

No. Its all just hype. The mayan calender just restarts on that day. They never said that the world would end on that day. The main reason people say that its going to end is to cause panic and to make people buy the books on it and the 2012 merchandise (yes there is actual merchandise). People said it would end in the year 2000 (Y2K) and 6/6/06 (June 6, 2006). Even Oct 21, 2008! Its all a hoax.
The only reason it ends in 2012 is that the Mayans were tired of chiselling rock. They got to 3000 years in the furture and said “well i’m tired, thats enough chiselling”

NO!! This doesn’t mean that the world will end then. Remember, the Mayans were an ancient civilization, so their estimates might not be correct (probably not), and also, he is right. It just means the beginning of the 14th cycle, not the end of the world.

Why do u think the world would end on that specific date? Why can’t the sun last another couple billion years. Its already been there for about 5 billion years, cant it wait a little longer?

The truth is no. They don’t have proof and no one knows when the earth will end… The earth will end when God comes back…. END OF STORY don’t believe all the BS the people tell you that the earth will end… Although we will have a major change of some sort….. but what can we did if a meteor hits us??? thats right nothing so…. the end of the world in 2012 is still a huge question. but the scientific facts that proves of a meteor that will pass earth on january has been proven and the solar storms detected by nasa is also confirmed and among other natural disasters that was forseen by some of our smartest individuals on the planet are not fiction. just take a look around you, do you still think the world is still thesame as it was 10 years before? compare the heat of the sun 10 years before, try to research on the nasa website and see how sick the earth is. let us all see 2012 as a warning. if you are a christian then you would and should give it a support of truth, that the story of apocalypse will start in 2012, where the earth will be under great tribulation and trial. the book of revelations speaks of the demise of the wicked and most of all the horrifying events that we will all face during the great test that God will put us all. the bible says that the return of Jesus will never be predicted but it clearly states in details the signs and events of his return. let us all be open minded about it, people are just ignoring the warnings to excuse themselves of their stubborness and fears that the Lord’s second coming is near and that great trial will befall on man to prove his worth to the kingdom of God before that happens. World will end… Physically? Probably not. “As we know it” Probably yes. I think the world requires a certain transformation to survive all the looming problems, and religion / government measures are not quite the solution.

Maverick’s answer was fantastic. If we read in Ezekiel 38 it tells us about the war of Armageddon and how 1/3 of the world’s population will be destroyed and great earthquakes will occur and mountains will fall. Maybe God’s wrath will occur on this date when Israel is invaded.
Iran is currently building nukes and is threatening Israel so this could be a possibility.

Nothing will happen. The end of the world had been predicated for 1000′s of years. Remember the Y2K scare that the computers would revert the date back to 1900 & trigger all of The USA’s & Russia’s nuclear missiles to launch? Obviously it never happened. Also there were predictions of severe climatic change on 05/05/2000. I remember hearing it on the Art Bell show. There were even books on the shelves of Barns & Noble about it. 05/05/2000 came, & guess what? You got it. Nothing happened. So the doomsday sooth sayers had to try to find another date. Behold 12/21/2012. When nothing happens then. they’ll just pull another date of the hat for the end of the world.
ok heres your answer the best one you will get. the mayan elders are angry with the fact it will end in 2012 cause it doesn,t the world will change and we will go on living it is just up to us on how we want to live it. second the earth will be here for another 4 billion years untill the sun expands into a red giant and swallows earth and i don’t think ill be alive for another few billion years, 3rd by that time we will be living in space or on other planets don,t ya think? and lastly it will not end by a meteor or comet or whatever because we have the tools to prevent that, ie rockets that can blast into space and blow it to pieces causing a meteor shower, ever wonder why we get them meteor showers as it is? or build a laser on the moon and cut it in half etc.. we will live on end of. and if anything we humans will destroy the earth before anything ever comes to destroy us so we need to cop on and wake up from that end of the world dream and say hmmmm what a load of scientific crap these people come up with.
