I believe the world as we know it will end December 21, 2012. Who else feels this way?

The Mayan Calendar ends on December 21, 2012. They have predicted many major events accurately. The Sun, Earth, Moon, and others planets will align on that day. Who knows what will happen?

The Mayan calendar doesnt end. It begins a new cycle.

the sun, earth, and moon, will not allign that day. anyway what happens if it does? that will definatly be a interesting study for scientists but all i know is that is the winter solstice. btw, the mayan calender only ended cuz that is when their civilization was wiped out. their farming teqnique was a never ending cycle. There are these theories every year, and they have never come true so don’t worry about it.
    hope i helped ; )

Name some events the Mayans have predicted accurately.
The planets will NOT align on that day. Yet again it’s necessary to roll out the diagram for the planets on December 21st 2012:

    Nothing will happen.

well, i have heard that the world as we know it will end that day but personally i dont know for sure and i dont think anyone else knows for sure

  5. thehumanbeagle

No, I do not and here’s why.

The headline appropriate for this upcoming event is: “Cosmic Mother Gives Birth to The First God.”
The truth is the Maya civilization brought itself to extinction before they could start a new age on their calendar system due to what most scholars accept as, overpopulation and exhausted food resources to sustain their cultural needs. The Mayans DID NOT predict the world was going to end. Doomsayers really spin this out of proportion without knowing historical facts or about astronomy. No matter what conspiracy theorists want to believe, the truth is, the Mayan Long Calendar speaks of the end of one cycle of time moving into the next on December 21, 2012. I’m sure if their race would have survived, they would have continued their calendar.

Cosmology research into the nature of December 21, 2012, reveals that a rare celestial alignment culminates on this date; and amazingly, the Mayans knew this. What occurs here is an alignment between the galactic and solar planes. Specifically, the winter solstice sun will conjunct the Milky Way, which is the edge of our spinning galaxy as viewed from earth. Furthermore, the place where the sun meets the Milky Way is where the “dark-rift” in the Milky Way is. This a black ridge along the Milky Way caused by interstellar dust clouds. At dawn on the winter solstice of 2012, the sun will be right in this dark-rift and the orientation is such that the Milky Way rims the horizon at all points around. Thus, the Milky Way “sits” on the earth, touching it at all points around, opening up the cosmic sky portal. The galactic and solar planes are thus aligned. “Sky portal” is just a term to describe the “opened sky” scenario apparent when the Milky Way rims the horizon. This is not to be confused with the “dark-rift” itself. Overall, the dark-rift is best understood as the birth canal of the Cosmic Mother. And the date of this alignment is, again, the end date of the 13-baktun Great Cycle – a cycle of approximately 5125 years. This all suggests that the ancient Maya were aware of the impending alignment and considered it to be of such importance to be a major transition point, the Creation of a new World Age.

So, for those of you still unconvinced and bound to mythological ideas better suited for Hollywood, if the Maya were so keen into predicting the future, one would come to theorize that they would have foreseen the demise of their own race and more than likely, prevented it from happening. Don’t ya think? And remember this small fact; the term “Apocalypse” as the Maya wrote it, literally means uncovering or revealing. This definition was understood, even at their time of writing.

you should research it instead of assuming things.

I’ve used orbiting software to show the alignments of the planets on that date and no planets or objects show that that will happen.

besides, we’ve had other planetary alignments in 1982 and 2000 recently and nothing has happened.

we’ve also had solar and lunar eclipses (thats when the moon eart and sun line up) and nothing has happened.

    the galactic alignment?

that happens once a year. nothing happens.

so in full, I do not believe anything will happen 12/21/2012
not even an alignment like that of which you’ve mentioned.

get some software and check it out for yourself instead of believing everything you hear

(thanks for the link bikenbeer )
I can vouch this is pretty much the exact thing I got in my software
    http://www.fourmilab.ch/cgi-bin/Solar?date=1&utc=2012%2F12%2F21+11%3A12%3A00&jd=2476948.34564&img=-k0&sys=-Sf&eyes=0&imgsize=320&orb=-b0&lat=47%B0&ns=North&lon=7%B0&ew=East&hlat=90%B0&hns=North&hlon=0%B0&elements=

doesn’t that just make you want to get up and slap someone?

Really man again, you could have just searched for this question which has been asked about a million times!!!!!

  9. xxsweetthang134xx

I don’t think so because i have my mind to the world and the SUN will explode in 5 billion years. So, all of us will be dead and our great(times about 30 or maybe 100) grandchildren will be the ones in danger

  10. Erica S

The only people who believe this rubbish are the scientifically illiterate, or those conned by writers and TV show makers out for a quick buck. The Mayans could not predict their own downfall when the Spaniards arrived, so how could they predict anything else? The Sun, Moon etc will NOT align on that day, or any other. It is physically impossible. Do us all a favor, and come back in 2013, and admit you were wrong! Incidentally, like me, the Mayans were Native Americans. We do not have any special powers of divination or anything else esoteric.

  11. CAleb waters

why do you think that… the mayans all died so they couldn’t keep making there calendar…

i think it would be more like dec 13 th just because everybody thinks its the 12th and when its 11:59 p.m. on 12th they will think “YEA” but then we r all dead….

  12. Raymond

Apparently there are many people who feel the same way. None of them know what’s going on, but, then, such is life nowadays.

The Mayan calendar does not come to the end. It comes to the end of a Long Count and begins a new Long Count. Mayan astronomers left writings describing astronomical events (as seen from their sites) that would take place after the year we call 2012; of course, they wrote the dates using their calendar (what else could they have used?). Obviously they expected neither the calendar nor the world to end.

They did not predict any major events (not even inaccurately). The so-called Mayan predictions are recent inventions by the hoaxers.

There is no special alignment of planets on that day (and, in fact, 2012 will be rather poor in even minor planetary alignments). There is a major planetary alignment every 176 years (on average). The last one was the incentive to launch the Voyager probes to the outer planets: they could use a gravitational boost from each planet, on the way to the next.

I have a relatively good idea of what will happen.

    Apparently, you don’t

  13. Carissa J

i’m scared of it but humans; nobody can predict when the world will end not even scientists. i think it’s just a phase with the earth.

  14. statickema

Not me. If your belief is true, then there is no need to counteract any global warming which may be occuring. Too short a time scale. Live each day as if it were thy last.
We will be discussing this topic on 22/12/2012, no doubt.

  15. Ken E

That isn’t even wrong. That is all lies and fraud to get people buying faked up books, videos, watching nonsense shows on TV and directing traffic to fraudulent websites.

Pole shifts – no, not a chance.

Magnetic poles flip – no, they will just keep moving as usual.

Mayan calendar – one of their calendars ends in 2012. There is no prediction attached to this and even if there was, it would be astrology and that has been disproved so many times that it’s not worth any more words.

Solar maximum – expected in 2011, not 2012 and it happens every 11 years anyway.

Planetary alignments – completely false and about as far from an “alignment” as you can imagine. Planets will be all over the place. The next “alignment” of the major planets is expected sometime after the Sun burns out. Even if it did happen the question would arise “So what?” Where is the physical connection between Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn etc?

Gravity? Like to calculate how strong the gravitational effects of Mars, Jupiter and Saturn is on Earth? Multiply the masses of the planets together, divide by the square of the distance between them and then multiply by the gravitational constant, which is a rather small number. Now add them all together and you still don’t have a hill of beans.

Newton knew how more than 200 years ago, but our planetary alignment freaks never care to because the result would make them look as silly as they are.

Venus will transit the Sun in June 2012, just as it did in 2004 and on a regular roughly 110 year cycle before that. No noticeable effect then except on astronomers, some of whom will take measurements, no expected effect this next time.

Planet X / Niburu / black hole / brown dwarf / wandering planet – No. Predicted for 2003 by a loony woman who claimed telepathic contact with aliens. No sign of it then and still no sign of it. If this big nasty exists it must be quite close by now and visible with a fairly ordinary astronomical telescope. Where is it? Don’t say it can only be seen from the southern hemisphere, there are many large astronomical telescopes in the southern hemisphere.

25,800 year cycles. This is called “precession of the equinoxes” and was discovered a bit more than 2100 years ago. It has been happening since the Earth formed billions of years ago and will not stop, start or change direction in 2012. There is no particular significance in the direction the poles of rotation happen to be pointing at present or in 2012.

The Bible codes are superstitious drivel and were disproved within months of the first book coming out, similar coded messages can be found in any random book or even newspapers using the same “anything goes” methods faked up by the author of the original book.

Revelation – nobody ever made sense of those febrile maunderings, the evidence for that is that there are so many different interpretations.

Nostradamus – he never predicted anything accurately and he may not have intended to. Many editions of his quatrains contain faked verses inserted long after he died.

Galactic central plane – we are near it, so astronomers say, but we have always been near it. No “alignment” is possible because of the angle of the ecliptic to that of the galactic central plane. Even if there was an alignment, the question would be “So what?”

Photon belt – this one is almost the silliest of the lot. Supposed to be round the “7 sisters”. Our solar system is heading away from them, not towards them. It does not exist anyway.

This is all fake scholarship, pseudo-science, lies, superstition and abject delusion.

  16. Boatman1

About every 3 hours this same question shows up– here on Answers. It’s a hoax!

The only thing important for that date is that Christmas and Santa Claus are only a few days away.

  17. campbelp2002

I do not feel this way.

Nothing bad will happen. You will see in 2013. I wish I could locate you in 2013 and ask what you think then, but of course you will “forget” you ever believed this then, or just not want to talk about it.

  18. Geoff G

Exactly _what_ events has the Mayan calendar predicted? It’s very easy to read “predictions” into early writings after the fact, especially when dealing with a poorly known and totally different language and orthography.

Scientists don’t expect anything out of the ordinary to happen in the year 2012, or specifically on the date December 21, other than the solstice, which happens every year.

None of the “predicted” happenings for 2012 hold up under close scrutiny. “Planet X” and “Nibiru” simply don’t exist. The Mayan calendar ends a cycle, but there were no predictions of the end of the world. The Sun doesn’t line up with the galactic centre; it’s 6 degrees off. No asteroids or comets are actually predicted to hit Earth.

All of this stuff was put together by sensationalists in order to promote their books and TV shows, and shamelessly promoted by the History Channel. Don’t take any of it seriously!

  19. gonashotmyse

i do think it will end on that day because of the mayan calender and the fact that some other predictions also say that the world would end that day

  20. iam"A"godofsheep

The Mayans couldn’t even predict that their civilization would fall to the Conquistadors, who they expected to bring peace and prosperity for their civilization, not enslave them for Spanish peace and prosperity. Even the Mayan scholars have a hard time believing 2012. If your going to follow pagan religions, believe in one that actually had a successful civilization until the religion converted to Christianity, like Roman Mythology or the Norse Pantheon, not a religion that involved sacrificing the people who could have defeated the Spanish for a longer lasting fire (burn some stupid sticks you blockheads!!)

    http://www.abhota.info/index.htm

Read this for a brief history of doomsday, and how everyone will believe a lie if it is said as a joke by someone influential, has the loosest ties possible (but it is still mentioned in a so called “documentary”), or it is said in Hollywood!

  21. aladdinwa

The Mayan calendar does not end, it merely starts over. Kind of like the hands of an analog clock going from 12:00 midnight to 12:01am.

Oh, and btw, if you really truly think the world is going to end on 12-21-12, then please give me all your posessions, because you obviously believe you won’t need them, anymore. Give me all your posessions, or shut up.
    .

  22. TommyFire

Why do u think it will end at that day and year?

  23. Sam W

There is an alignment happening on Dec 21, 2012. What’s gonna happen? I don’t know, but what takes place that day is is the alignment of that’s called the divine cross with the mundane cross.

The divine cross is a cross in the sky that does not move, formed by the center of the galaxy and from the center point of our celestial equator to the southern point of the celestial equator.

The mundane cross in down on Earth and is formed by the angles between equinox and the solstice.

On DEC 21, 2012 the mundane cross here on Earth will align with that spot in the galaxy called the divined cross and both crosses will form an imaginary cross of 8 arms.

Maybe Mayan astrologers were advanced enough to calculate that moment in space and time. Maybe the interpreted that info as an event of great importance (based on their own belief system).

For the Mayans, their lives in THIS world already ended…… but who am I to say this world is all there is in this infinite universe?

On way or another, we will all very soon get an answer to what’s gonna happen on DEC 21, 2012, we just have to apply a virtue all of us possess (in some degree):

    PATIENCE

  24. Vince M

For the Mayans, the world already ended several hundred years ago. They can predict the end of the world, but they couldn’t see their own extinction coming?

Reminds me of Dionne Warwicks “Psychic Friends Network” going belly up. They didn’t know this would happen?

  25. Lexi S

we all arent gonna die on that day…..
it just says “as we know it”

  26. (¯`·._.·[$RodNey$]·._.·´¯) A

Im scared b?c if Doomsday gonna happen on that day then ALL SHIT, THATS THE YEAR IM GRADUATING FROM HIGH SCHOOL….all those wasted time, going to school and Dreaming about my future

  27. Peace Crusader

Do not be scared. I assure you that the world will not end on 2012 December 21 but it will end one day. Nostradamus’ prediction of when the earth will end is far into the future, past about 3700. He still has many prophecies that are not fulfilled yet. Remember that if there is a beginning, there is an end.

The Mayan’s Mesoamerican Long Count calendar forms the basis for a New Age belief, first forecast by Jose Arguelles, that a cataclysm will take place on or about 2012 December 21 (Wikipedia). It will be the end of a Mayan calendar cycle to start a new cycle.

In the book of Revelation, it tells us about a period of a thousand years of peace. Has this occurred already since the time of Jesus? Not yet. That will still come. Those that give predictions of the world’s end, such as 2012 and numerous times during the past, are pseudo-preachers. Have they talked to God directly? If so, give proofs.

But there is something that is certain—and that is our physical death. This is what we should prepare for. It may come when least expected. We do not know the day and the hour. It will come like a thief in the night. So we just have to be prepared all the time. Search for the true God and when we find Him, follow His commandments and remain in Him until our last dying breath.

This is all that we have to do. It is faith in the true God that we can take with us when we depart from this world. If we denied Him, He will deny us also before the Father in Heaven and send us to Hell. This is very scary – to live in Hell forever. If we knew Him and loved Him and followed His commandments, then He may reward us to live with Him eternally in His kingdom in Heaven. This is the survival kit that we should have.

What is also certain to happen very soon (in about 2012 or earlier) is World War III and this is a nuclear war. This calamitous war will start from the Philippines, at Spratly Islands in particular. The Spratly Islands lie on the South China Sea mostly near the coast of the Philippines. The Holy Spirit told us that the troubles in the Philippines is like the wick of a lamp. Once the wick is lit, it will be on and aglow. He told us about this prophecy more than a decade ago. Please read what is happening in the Philippines now. Spratly Islands which is being claimed wholly or partly by six countries including China is in the news and considered a tinderbox, a flash point. It is very rich in oil and gas resources, more than the reserve of Kuwait. The high price of oil may trigger the grabbing of these islands and start the war.

Four independent prophecies point to the certainty that this will happen. These are Nostradamus’ prophecies to happen around this time (quatrains 6:24 and 2:62) , the 56th Chinese prophecy of Tuey Bei Tu (the past 55 prophecies have already been fulfilled), Revelation 9:18 of the Holy Bible, and those that the Holy Spirit revealed to us. If you are interested in the details about these prophecies, please send me your request via email.
