hello? we are meant to enjoy things in life, so the north american way of life is cool!
I live in North America, and I believe very deeply in the Buddhist traditions.
I find Buddhists focus much more on finding bliss in the soul, whereas American capitalism believes happiness comes through material stability; more is good. In Buddhism, more is not good, but neither is less. Buddhists seek a fine balance, the Middle Path.
It’s hard to say what the pros and cons are. Basically, Buddhism teaches its followers to find peace and balance in all parts of one’s life, whereas mainstream American philosophy generally pushes people to gain as much as one can. This doesn’t always mean money, but often people seek money over peace and love.
American capitalism isn’t designed to further a person’s spiritual journey, and Buddhism isn’t designed to make a worldly living. Buddhists put less value on material and more value on the soul and mind.
