As an elementary teacher how do you incorporate technology into your classroom?

What kind of technology?
How do the students interact with the technology?
How are the literacy strands addressed (reading, writing, listening, speaking, viewing, and representing or digitally representing?

In my school district there are things called “smart boards”. Children and teachers alike get to write on them or drag items around on them. They can be used to display pictures or word documents, used to draw arrorws or circles around maps or such, used to correct sentences in DOL and DGP, and so forth.
I absolutely love Smart Boards! At any given moment if I have a student who doesn’t understand something I can say “hang on I will show you a picture” (or a video clip or a model or whatever they need) Students interact with the Smart Board by dragging and dropping pictures in the correct places, drawing geometric figures, writing on a word web…..and the list goes on and on. There are a lot of literacy programs you can use with the Smart Board that act like digital story books with the words at the bottom of the screen that are highlighted as a voice reads through them. As far as writing goes, I use the Smart Board when I’m introducing a writing activity. I will have the students brainstorm an idea with me, then we will actually write one together. Typing the words that are on screen is a lot faster and more efficient than writing on the dry erase board or on chart paper. When we are through, I will leave a few lead in lines on the board for students to use if they get stuck while they are writing.
We also use Senteo technology, which is a clicker system. Students use them to answer questions sort of like they do on Jeopardy. Afterwards you can look at charts and graphs to see how well your students have mastered a certain concept. They are great to use as a fun review game or to pre-assess.
